The Jackie Moon Billboard

It started out as an idea — one of those that sits somewhere between DJing and marketing.

I remember pitching three out-of-home (OOH) marketing ideas to a manager of mine, designed to bring more real-world interaction, more engagement, more joy. They were crafted to make people smile; to get a client noticed for the right reasons.

They got knocked back.

At the time, I was a bit dumbfounded. Deep down, I knew they were good ideas. I understood the client, the message, and the impact it could have had.

I like to believe those ideas made it back to the client, but if I’m honest, I know they didn’t.

(If you’re curious what those ideas were, I’m happy to share.)

Fast forward four years — and here we are. The itch finally got scratched.

The Jackie Moon Billboard in Leyland.

You build a reputation. You build a brand. You collaborate with people and businesses who get it. Who see the vision. Who aren’t blinded by their own egos, and who genuinely want to do good work with good people.

In the end, it was about finding the right people — people who actually believed in your skills, knowledge and expertise in marketing.

It is a funny billboard. But, it makes people proud to be where they’re from too.

Humour is pivotal in marketing. But some people? They’re just not funny. That’s why it gets missed sometimes. Good humour connects and when it works, it works hard.

So, thank you to the ones who backed this idea:
Leyland Beds and Furniture, Archive Business Centre, Indigo Bar Leyland, The Market Ale House Leyland, Cre85 Construction, Leyland Boot Room, and Stu McFarlane (Big Stu) — I appreciate you all.

And to the freelancers, creatives, and early-career marketers reading this:

Don’t let anyone dull your creativity.

Trust your gut.

Keep on keeping on.
